United Maritime Academy (UMA) is one of the fastest growing Maritime Institute in Bangladesh. It was established with the objectives of creating qualified professionals with latest skills and right attitude required for shipping industries. UMA offers two years Professional Pre-Sea degree in Nautical Science and in Marine Engineering under Department of Shipping, Bangladesh and HND under supervision of Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) which is approved by MCA. This academy also provides value added courses as per the requirement of shipping companies approved by MCA. The institute is duly approved by Directorate General of Shipping (D.G.Shipping), Govt. of Bangladesh and affiliated to Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB). It is an ISO 9001:2015 certified organisation and certified by RINA.

 

The institute is built in 1 acres self-contained campus having facilities for medical, post office, banking, ATM, canteen, grocery shop, Xerox and internet facilities. Academic block has 12 spacious classrooms together with labs (physics, chemistry and computer), workshops (pneumatic, hydraulic, machine, carpentry, plumbing) and advanced full mission bridge simulator. The lab and workshops are well-equipped. The campus is situated just next to Hatirjheel in the midst of the capital. The deep lake inside the campus is used for boating. UMA has a policy of sharing resources among its various constituent academies. Engineering department of UMA offers unique opportunity to the cadets to have hand on experience in all kind of machineries. So Labs and workshops of UMA are also used by our cadets from time to time.

The programme at UMA is carefully designed to take maximum advantages of the facilities and infrastructure available to enhance the learning experience and to build a culture of team work and professionalism. The curriculum places great emphasis on practical training and ship visit. The curriculum is designed to reinforce the theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

 

Separate accommodation facilities are provided for cadets and have all facilities as required by D. G. Shipping, Bangladesh.

All cadets are provided with medical care and are subjected to medical examination periodically by institute’s Resident Medical Officer. Resident Medical Officer visit hostels everyday for minor ailments. However, the cases of illness which cannot be adequately treated in the institute are treated in hospital and in that case cadets are sent to hospital. Charges of hospital, as actual, are recovered from parents/guardians. The institute has tie-up arrangement with United Hospital for referral cases. Ambulance facilities are provided on 24 hour basis.
